Farewell, SSCI

Please indulge me a personal reflection.

Words of wisdom from Clay Shirky

DrupalCon - Day 2
I was introduced to Clay Shirky's a couple of years ago when he published Here Comes Everybody and then viewed his TED talks. My colleague, Mark Blackburn, and I found these resources to be essential "reading" as we did our research for the analysis of trends in business and technology at SSCI. I was delighted to learn he was giving a keynote address at DrupalCon.

Greetings from DrupalCon

Ever since my introduction to Drupal in early 2010 as I started to redesign the web site for SSCI, I recognized the need to augment what I could learn on my own with an immersion in a communal experience. I am delighted to attend the Drupal conference in Chicago, where Drupal is celebrating it's tenth anniversary.

Transition

I established this site following my departure from the Systems and Software Consortium, Inc. (SSCI), where I was a Principal Member of the Technical Staff for almost 14 years. I began this blog when I redesigned the company's web site in the spring of 2010. The blog posts prior to March 2011 were originally posted at SSCI, and are still available there.

Going forward, I will continue to post about topics and issues in information technology that capture my interest and I hope are worth sharing. I welcome your comments.

10th anniversary of the Agile Manifesto

Are you acquainted with the Agile manifesto? It was 10 years ago — February 11, 2001, that 17 like-minded visionaries got together in Snowbird, Utah to discuss the current state of software development and to chart a new course.

Connecting the dots

Let me confess that I did not connect the dots very well.

How trustworthy are you?

I assert that most of us think that we are trustworthy. When we explore the assumptions that support this assertion, we understand that an important aspect of being trustworthy is the desire not to disappoint ourselves and those who know us/care about us — those who have, in fact, trusted us. In most circumstances, the social fabric reinforces the inhibition to violate that trust and we continue to behave in a trustworthy manner.

Netiquette suggestion

Have you ever sent a REPLY ALL response to an email message when replying to the sender was really what you wanted to do?

Don't ya hate :-) when your in-box gets filled with these unwanted replies?

Here's my tip of the day: Protect yourself from inadvertently sending a REPLY ALL message.

Congratulation on Drupal 7

On Wednesday, January 5, 2011, the Drupal community released version 7 of its open source content management system. There are 112 parties planned in a worldwide celebration for this evening (January 7). Given the span of time zones involved, it is likely that the party will last for more than 24 hours.

This release — completes three years of intense effort by a community of nearly a thousand contributors, which is a truly amazing achievement.
