About

Bob SmallThank you for visiting my web site. Please allow me to introduce myself.

I have 30+ years of experience in information technology and have worked as a software developer, project and program manager, and consultant. In these varied roles, I have been involved with hundreds of projects. Several years ago, I became interested in agile software development; through my coaching of more than 50 software development teams, I have experienced its transformative potential to improve outcomes of software system development, especially with higher levels of client satisfaction and reduced "time to value."

Throughout my career, I have encountered many situations where clients felt disempowered because the technologists who were building their solutions were more focused on the technology than the solution. I understand the importance of active listening to really understand what a client needs and to separate out design decisions from the features or requirements. Most importantly, the world changes and a client's needs will change; planning for change — rather than being surprised by it — is essential. A successful project is not a point solution but one that continues to enable the client's goals.

In 2001, I began building web sites as a hobby and about five years ago, began doing this as a sideline. Please contact me to discuss your project and how I might help. I look forward to hearing from you.
